v0.7.5 Character creation, load + save in editor and smaller first escape levels
These are the Endless Thief v0.7.5 changes:
- Simple character creation: select a character and freely spend the first 3 skill points on any skill
- Loading and saving levels in the level editor
- Reduced the size of the first Escape level by half
- When sleeping guards wake up, after losing sight of the player, they fall back asleep
- Level editor uses an accurate 1:1 tile scaling
- Added a "help" popup in the level editor
- Game remembers last building and room type and forces other building and room types, adding more variety
- Added padding around levels, so players can always walk around buildings
- Decreased NPC speech bubble transparency for improved readability
- Fixed lock-picking so that the action speed significantly speeds up lock-picking as expected
I enjoy immersive sims. These games focus on player choice, which is something I also want to focus on.
So in this update, characters no longer start with preset skills. Instead, the player can choose any character and invest the first 3 skill points however they like. Hopefully this allows the player to create a character more to their play-style.
The level editor has had many bug fixes. The load and save buttons are also enabled, so players can load and save levels from the level editor. The tile scaling from level editor to in-game used to be 2:1, but I changed it to 1:1. This makes level editing more accurate.
When the player accidentally wakes up sleeping guards and successfully runs away from them, the guards will fall asleep again. I originally wanted them to go back to bed, but then I reconsidered and made them all asleep standing where they last went. I think it's kind of funny, and it can be strategically beneficial to the player as well.
When the game selects rooms and building types for the levels, it remembers the last choices and makes sure it doesn't choose the same types twice in a row. Now levels have more variety. Also a guaranteed padding around the levels makes sure that players can always walk around buildings.
There was a bug in the game that caused the action speed skill to actually slow down lock-picking, rather than speeding it up. Also, the action speed rate for lock-picking was barely noticeable. This is fixed. Now action speed significantly increases the lock-picking speed.
The first escape level was pretty large for a first level. This level is meant as a first hands-on tutorial level, rather than starting with boring hand-holding tutorials. I don't want players to get stuck on this first level, so now it is shorter and easier. Hopefully this gets more people into the actual game missions.
Please enjoy ^^
