Introducing the Thieves Guild


I've always liked the idea of coming back to a home base between game missions. Allowing the player to have some downtime, upgrade their gear and talking to fellow friendly team members.

So I have added a friendly Thieves Guild. The player now starts outside of the Thieves Guild with fellow trainees. They need to pass initial training in order to become official Thieves Guild members. We can talk to them between training missions for fun and to get clues for the next session.

Once training is completed, we are allowed inside the guild and meet other guild members. Each guild member provides an additional service that we can choose from, and give clues about the next mission when we talk to them.

The guild services are currently:

  • Buying items from the guild shop
  • Winning price gold from completing challenges
  • Starting the next mission.

During missions, we can steal gold. Sometimes, this is the main objective. A new mission objective is to kidnap a guard, in which case all gold in the mission is optional. However, we can use any stolen gold in the guild shop for the next mission.

I have plans to expand the Thieves Guild with additional services and expanding the Guild area itself in future updates. I want to add guild members that like to talk casually and play a game of cards. This card game will be a mini-game in which we can bet gold. If we win, we get double the gold. If we lose, we lose the gold. The difficulty depends on the amount of gold we want to bet.

Some card mini-games I really enjoy from other games are Arcomage / Acromage and Triple Triad. So I will base my card mini-games on those two and focus my next update on adding these mini-games.

Finally, I want the Thieves Guild to be located in a large sandbox city. In an introduction, we will get invited to the Thieves Guild and just have to find it. Once we're in, we can not only complete missions, but also buy improved lockpicks to steal from the Guild City itself. Stealing gold from the Guild City will improve our Thief Rank and grant us to access to more important missions.

There are many ideas that I also want to include in the game. Some other ideas I'm looking forward to is building traps can be used both against the player and against the guards themselves! Lure guards into their own traps, that sounds like fun. This could also be a new mission objective: let a target guard have an "accident" with their own traps. But I'll focus on mini-games first, then the Guild City and traps after that. I have plenty of work to do on this game and I'm looking forward to getting there one update at a time.

I will also continue updating my other game FoxPaww with new content. The next update will have transformations and power ups, where the player can transform into the rescued animal and gain its special powers. I feel like I released FoxPaww too soon with not enough content, so I will keep adding content to that game as well. And make sure when I'm ready to release the full version of Endless Thief, it will have enough content on its first v1.0.0 release.
